Great Expectations

If you are going to adopt the spirit of 12in12 you need to make your peace with the sacrifices involved. Yes you will be able to visit a city. No it may not be the way the Johnsons did it last summer, the way your favourite sitcom depicts it on TV, or what in common vernacular we call a  “trip of a lifetime”. Make no mistake, it will be awesome. But when you travel this way you are making some trade offs. You are going to do the city quick and dirty. You are going to hit the highlights of your choice and hightail it out of there.

The key thing here is to embrace that principle. Be fully realistic about what it is exactly that is going to fit into your budget and go for it full force! If you have a $1000 budget that is great news for you. If you have a $100 budget that can also be great news for you. Accept that there are limitations to what you can do and enjoy every last minute of it.

The good news is that there is so much choice within these parameters. Free yourself by knowing that you can choose to spend your time however you want. We generally choose to spend our time doing as many things as we possible can (see here, here, and here as basic examples) because we love it. Maybe you love sitting in a park and watching people or shopping until you drop or spending hours upon hours in an art gallery taking it all in. This concept is all about the fact that you are the master of your own time. If you want to take off on a Friday night just to see the Statue of Liberty, you can. Get off your behind and get it done.
